Phoenix police on Monday identified the woman shot by officers last week at a hotel.
Officials said 24-year-old Jovana McCreary shot at police before two officers fired back and struck her. She was treated at a hospital prior to her arrest.
Phoenix police responded Wednesday to the hotel near Interstate 17 and Peoria Avenue after a 911 caller said his roommate was acting “crazy,” according to spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson. The caller told police the roommate had fired her gun outside the hotel and directed officers to McCreary when they arrived at the scene.
Police learned McCreary had drugs in her purse and a warrant for a misdemeanor charge, Thompson said. She struggled when officers tried to detain her and pulled a handgun from her waist, narrowly missing officers when she fired the weapon, he said.
McCreary was booked Saturday into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, dangerous drug possession and weapons misconduct.
No officers or bystanders were injured in the shooting, police said.
