An 18-year-old man was taken into custody after Phoenix police say he left the scene of a collision that killed a bicyclist Thursday night.

Officers went to the scene of a collision about 10 p.m. in the area of 34th Street and McDowell Road, according to a Phoenix Police Department news release.

Jeffrey Ray, 53, was riding a bicycle and crossing McDowell Road mid-block.

A sedan driven by 18-year-old Javon Holston was traveling east on McDowell Road when the vehicle struck Ray and continued driving, according to police officials. Officers found Holston and took him into custody.

Ray was taken to a hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

Holston was booked into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of leaving the scene of a collision.
