At Salt River Fields

At the plate: 3B Jake Lamb continued to rack up hits, this time driving a ball to the warning track in right-center field that he legged out for a triple in the first inning. He also drew a walk in the fifth inning. He’s 10 for 19 (.526) with two doubles, a triple and two homers. “A balanced approach, staying through the ball, there’s no hustle to his swing and it’s been very productive with the results,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “I know you work hard for those moments and to have runs like this, and he deserves it.” 2B Brandon Drury had two hits, including a double to center in the third.

On the mound: LHP Robbie Ray found himself in several deep counts that ran up his pitch count, but he still managed to work an effective 3 1/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk while striking out three. He said he was surprised at some of the pitches Giants hitters laid off, leading him to wonder if he might have been tipping his off-speed stuff. “That’s something I need to go back and look at why I wasn’t getting swings on it,” Ray said. He threw four pitches or more to 10 of the 14 batters he faced. RHP Tom Wilhelmsen threw in a perfect inning, his fastball sitting at 95-96 mph; he’s allowed one run in four innings so far. “The last two outings I’ve felt better about (my command),” he said. “My first two outings were a little erratic, all over the place. When that happens you take a step back and get back to the basics and take a deep breath, don’t try to do too much.”

Extra bases: RF David Peralta appeared to twist an ankle on his way out of the batter’s box in the third inning, but he remained in the game and said later he was fine. Ray nabbed CF Gorkys Hernandez in the third inning, wheeling as Hernandez tried to get an early jump on an attempted steal of third.
