Jade Carey of Phoenix finished second in vaulting Saturday at the World Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.
Carey, 19, who trains at Arizona Sunrays, scored an average 14.883 on two vaults to take the World silver medal behind fellow American Simone Biles (15.399).
Carey had a 15.166 on her Cheng vault and 14.6 on her Amanar vault.
She also leaves Worlds as a team gold medalist. At 2017 Worlds, she was silver medalist on vaulting and floor exercise.
Carey is the world apparatus event leader in vaulting and floor exercise and has two viable routes (individual and team) for qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The U.S. women including Jade Carey of Phoenix won a team gold medal Tuesday at the World Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.
Carey again competed on two events, like in team qualifying, scoring 15.166 on vaulting and 14.333 on floor exercise. She was second among Americans on both events behind Simone Biles.
The Americans finished first with 172.330, well ahead of runner-up Russia (166.52) and third place Italy (164.796). China was fourth followed by France, Great Britain, Canada and Netherlands.
Carey, 19, who trains with Arizona Sunrays, will compete in the vaulting final Saturday.

Jade Carey of Phoenix was first on vaulting Saturday at the World Gymnastics Championships, helping the U.S. women lead in team qualifying in Stuttgart, Germany.
Carey, 19, averaged 15.200 on her two vaults (15.3 on her Cheng, 15.1 on her Amanar). She finished slightly ahead of teammate Simone Biles (15.199 average) on vault.
Biles led on floor exercise (14.833) followed by Sunisa Lee and Carey at 14.200.
The U.S. scored 174.205 to lead qualifying ahead of China (169.161) and Russia (168.080). Others qualifiers for the team final Tuesday are France, Canada, Netherlands, Great Britain and Italy.
Carey will compete in the vault final Oct. 12. She is the world apparatus ranking leader on vault and floor with a chance to qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as an individual or for U.S. team competition.

MyKayla Skinner of Gilbert/Desert Lights is the U.S. alternate at Worlds.

Jade Carey of Phoenix will be among five women competing for the U.S. at the World Gymnastics Championships while MyKayla Skinner of Gilbert was named alternate.
Others chosen to compete Thursday by Tom Forster, national high performance coordinator, are Simone Biles, Kara Eaker, Sunisa Lee and Grace McCallum.
“This is never an easy decision to make, and this time it is especially difficult because every gymnast on the team can contribute on multiple events,” Forster said. “MyKayla is doing an incredible job with her training and is an important member of this team.”
Skinner, who trains at Desert Lights, also was an alternate at the 2016 Olympics. She then competed for three years in college at Utah before returning to elite international training in May.
“I never thought four or five months ago that I’d even be here,” Skinner said after World podium training in Stuttgart, Germany. “My main goal obviously is 2020 Olympics so I think the way I’ve really handled everything and have pushed myself has really turned out.
“The outcome has been amazing and great so it’s just fun being out there and being with Team USA and bringing back all the old memories. It kind of feels like I never stopped.”
Carey, who trains at Arizona Sunrays, leads is the world apparatus event leader in vaulting and floor exercise. She could qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics via an individual route not previously available.
The U.S. women will compete in team qualification Saturday. The women’s team final is Oct. 8 with the women’s all-around final Oct. 10 and event finals Oct. 12-13.
