A crash forced the closure of southbound Interstate 17 at 16th Street in Phoenix Thursday during the afternoon rush hour, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

A motorcyclist collided into the rear of a vehicle at 4:17 p.m. said Bart Graves, Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman.

Graves said the motorcyclist was unresponsive at the scene.

Traffic was being directed to exit at 16th Street, ADOT said.

Details on the accident were not immediately available.

No reopening time has been set. Motorists were advised to take a different route.
