Phoenix police say one person is dead and several others are injured following a head-on collision in which alcohol impairment is suspected.

Police say a westbound vehicle carrying two people veered into the eastbound lanes of Thomas Road near 37th Avenue on Sunday night, colliding with a car carrying two people.

A woman in the eastbound car was killed and another person in that vehicle was seriously injured.

The driver of the westbound vehicle also was seriously injured and a passenger had minor injuries.

Thomas Road remained closed Monday morning as the investigation continued.
