A Tucson Fire Department captain shot his ex-wife and killed a man inside a restaurant at an upscale shopping mall in north Tucson on Friday night, before turning the gun on himself, according to public-safety officials.

Frederick Bair, 60, opened fire inside the Firebirds Wood Fired Grill at La Encantada mall at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. He then fatally shot himself, said Deputy Cody Gress, a spokesman for the department.

The woman suffered an injury to her leg and is expected to survive, Gress said. No bystanders were injured.

In a statement, Tucson Fire Capt. Barrett Baker identified Bair as a fellow fire captain.

“The Tucson Fire Department is heartbroken over the news regarding the shooting at La Encantada,” Baker said in the brief statement. “The department extends it thoughts and prayers to the families of this tragic event.”

Details about what led to the shooting remain unknown and the investigation remains ongoing. Officials have not released the name of the woman or the other man.
