Emergency crews on Tuesday found the body of a woman who died as she was watching her granddaughter, who was found wandering in the area Monday night, Phoenix police said.

Police received a call from a man saying the woman had been babysitting his daughter and that the little girl was missing, Phoenix police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said.

Officers realized that a girl with a matching description had been found Monday night, Fortune said.

Police and fire crews responded to an apartment near Seventh Street and Bell Road just before 2 p.m. Tuesday and found the woman dead inside.

There were no obvious signs of foul play, Fortune said.

Officers were in the process of reuniting the father and his daughter on Tuesday.

Police did not provide any more details.

An investigation is ongoing.
