A Grand Canyon University student living on campus has tested positive for COVID-19, making them the first confirmed case associated with the university, GCU announced in a press release.

GCU announced on Wednesday that they had learned of the first positive case on its campus. The student went into the campus health services center on Tuesday with symptoms and was tested. The student was confirmed positive within 24 hours, the press release said.

The university has isolated the student in an empty residence hall and has located any people who may have been in contact with them. One of the students who had been in close contact with them is off campus and has been told to self-quarantine, the press release said.

Common areas within the Papago residence hall where the student was living have been thoroughly cleaned, the university said in the press release.

“We are not concerned with exposure to anyone else at this time,” the release said.

GCU moved classes online starting March 23 and has postponed spring commencement ceremonies to the fall.
