The Phoenix Fire Department demonstrates what to do if you see someone unresponsive in a pool.

A 3-year-old girl who was submerged in a backyard pool for an unknown period of time late Sunday afternoon was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, authorities said.

Fire crews responded to the drowning call near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road and found the girl was not breathing, Capt. Larry Subervi said.

The girl was pulled from the pool in the 4100 block of West Cavalier Drive about 5 p.m.

A Phoenix police spokeswoman confirmed the girl’s death. An investigation was ongoing.
