Funeral services for 10 members of a Phoenix family killed during a flash flood at a Payson-area swimming hole will be held Monday and Tuesday in Scottsdale.
Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church,10815 N. 84th St., Scottsdale.
A funeral Mass for the 10 victims is scheduled for 11 a.m. the following day at the same location, Messinger Mortuary said Saturday.
The public is welcome to attend.
On Friday, the 10th victim’s body was identified by authorities as 27-year-old Hector Miguel Garnica, who died along with his wife and children and other relatives at the Cold Springs swimming hole.
Garnica and his family were at the swimming hole on July 15 as part of a birthday celebration for his wife, Maria Raya-Garcia, 27, when a “40-foot-wide black wave” of rainwater, mud and debris swept them away.
Other victims identified by the Gila County Sheriff’s Office included:
- The children of Maria Raya-Garcia and Hector Miguel Garnica: Emily Garnica, 3; Mia Garnica, 5; and Daniel Garnica, 7.
- Maribel Raya-Garcia, 24; and her daughter, Erica Raya-Garcia, 2.
- Javier Raya-Garcia, 19.
- Selia Garcia Castenada, 57, the mother of Maria, Maribel and Javier Raya-Garcia.
- Jonathan Leon, 13, Garcia Castenada’s grandson.
Four other family members were rescued and treated at a local hospital for hypothermia. They were identified Monday as Julio Garcia, 29; Esthela Atonado, 28; Acis Raiden Garcia, 8; and Marina Garcia, 1.
