The funeral for fallen Arizona Department of Public Safety Trooper Tyler Edenhofer will be held Friday morning in Peoria.

The 10 a.m. service will be held at Christ’s Church of the Valley, 7007 W. Happy Valley Road.

Earlier this week, hundreds showed up to a candlelight vigil for Edenhofer in front of the Arizona state Capitol.

A viewing, which was open to the public, was held at the church on Thursday evening.

Edenhofer, 24, was the youngest fallen DPS trooper, the department said.

He was fatally shot on July 25 while responding to a call of man throwing objects at passing vehicles along the Interstate 10 near Avondale Boulevard. DPS said Edenhofer and other responding troopers got into a scuffle with the man, later identified as Isaac King, 20.

The agency said King grabbed another trooper’s weapon and fired shots, killing Edenhofer and injuring Trooper Dalin Dorris.

King later was charged with first-degree murder. Officials used the handcuff’s issued to Edenhofer on the man as he was booked into jail.

Edenhofer was finishing his last night of field training when he was killed, the DPS said.

Before joining the department in Sept. 2017, Edenhofer served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the Guam-based USS Frank Cable.

He had just graduated from the DPS academy in May with training class No. 508.
