Phoenix police Sgt. Alan Pfohl talks about an officer-involved shooting July 20, 2017, in the Moon Valley neighborhood.

A Phoenix police officer shot at a man who struck a patrol vehicle while trying to drive away from officers responding to a suspicious vehicle call Thursday morning, officials said.

Antonio Garcia Goff, 22, was taken into custody around noon after an intensive search, according to Phoenix police Sgt. Alan Pfohl.

Police say Garcia Goff had a warrant for his arrest at the time of the incident but did not provide details.

Pfohl said officers encountered Garcia Goff while responding to a suspicious vehicle call near Seventh Street and Coral Gables Drive.

Pfohl also said Garcia Goff began to drive away in a white Toyota Camry as officers arrived and, in the process, hit a police vehicle.

One of the officers fired at least one shot at the vehicle.

No officers were hurt during the incident.

Police tracked down Garcia Goff in a residential backyard, and he was taken into custody with help from a police dog. Pfohl said he was treated for a bite to the leg and another minor injury that may have been related to the shooting.

Garcia Goff was booked into jail on an outstanding warrant, as well as on suspicion of aggravated assault on a police officer and trespassing, Pfohl said.
