Navajo Elementary School will be closed until further notice after a fire started in the storage room early Wednesday, according to Scottsdale Unified School District.

Navajo Elementary students will be back in class Thursday at Oak Academy, 7501 E. Oak St., approximately three miles south of the school, according to a district spokeswoman.

The site has not been used by a school in two years.

School hours will be delayed by 15 minutes and will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to accommodate commute times. Buses will run on the normal schedule, according to the district.

3 a.m. alarm

The Scottsdale Fire Department responded around 3 a.m. to an alarm at the school, which is located at 4525 N. Granite Reef Road, and found a storage room in the center of Navajo Elementary’s classroom building on fire.

The fire was extinguished but remains under investigation.

No one was hurt in the fire.

The fire damage was contained to the storage room, although smoke damage is present throughout the classroom building, the district said.

More than 400 students attend Navajo Elementary, according to 2017-2018 enrollment numbers.
