A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with a deadly stabbing at a Phoenix apartment complex Sunday, officials said.

The incident happened near 19th and Northern avenues at about 7:30 p.m.

Phoenix police responded to the complex after witnesses said they heard noises from a nearby apartment, according to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune.

Officers found the male victim in the apartment with “severe cuts,” Fortune said. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not released as of Monday morning.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was found inside the apartment when police arrived, Fortune said.
