A fatal crash on Interstate 17 near Black Canyon City was causing massive traffic delays Saturday, officials said.

One person died in a four-vehicle collision near Milepost 248 just north of Black Canyon City Saturday morning, according to a Department of Public Safety spokesperson. Officials did not provide any additional details about the collision.

The crash closed northbound lanes Saturday morning. Traffic was backed up more than 17 miles as drivers waited for the interstate to reopen.

Both lanes reopened at about 11 a.m., but traffic was still backed up with long delays Saturday afternoon.

Arizona Department of Transportation officials did not know when the traffic flow would return to normal.
