A fatal crash on Interstate 17 near Black Canyon City was causing massive traffic delays Saturday, officials said.

One person died in a four-vehicle collision near Milepost 248 just north of Black Canyon City Saturday morning, according to a Department of Public Safety spokesperson. Officials did not provide any additional details about the collision.

The crash forced the closure of the northbound lanes Saturday morning. Traffic was backed-up more than 17 miles as drivers waited for the interstate to re-open.

Both lanes re-opened at about 11 a.m., but traffic was still backed-up with long delays Saturday afternoon.

Arizona Department of Transportation officials did not know when the traffic flow would return to normal.
