Singer-songwriter Eros Ramazzotti, a popular figure in the Latin-music world, has been forced to cancel tour dates in the United States, Mexico, Canada and Latin America following surgery on his vocal cords.
“I must stop and rehabilitate for two months,” the Italian singer said in an Instagram post. “I’m sorry for my fans all over … America. I will make up all next year.”
Ramazzotti launched the tour in February in Europe. The run of shows in the Americas was scheduled to kick off with a concert in Guadalajara on May 14. The U.S. portion of the tour included stops at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles (May 21) and Radio City Music Hall in New York (June 18).
Throughout most of his career, Ramazzotti has released music in both Spanish and Italian, becoming hugely successful with both audiences. “”La Cosa Más Bella” reached No. 2 on the U.S. Latin chart, with “Fuego en el Fuego” and “”Una Emoción Para Siempre” among his other major American hits.
However, he has never penetrated the English-speaking market in the States, despite successful duets with Tina Turner (“Cosas de la Vida”), Cher (“Più Che Puoi”) and Joe Cocker (“That’s All I Need to Know”).
Ramazzotti is touring in support of the disc “Hay Vida” / “Vita ce n’è.” The album’s most recent single, “Por Las Calles Las Canciones,” is a duet with Luis Fonsi.
