Early Sunday morning a silver SUV drove the wrong way on the westbound lanes of Loop 202, resulting in a collision that closed down parts of the 202 and Loop 101 for hours, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Officials said they suspect the driver of the car was impaired.

Around 1:45 a.m., DPS officers received reports of the car traveling eastbound on 202 westbound lanes around Center Parkway. The driver crashed with one car at Center Parkway and another car at McClintock Drive. Five people were injured in the crashes and were treated on scene for non-life threatening injuries.

The wrong-way driver was transported to Scottsdale Osborne for unknown injuries, DPS said.

Lanes on the 202 west and the northbound and southbound ramps of Loop 101 were closed for a number of hours and reopened around 6:45 a.m, according to DPS.
