A suspected wrong-way driver was arrested after a crash on Interstate 17 north of Phoenix early Wednesday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

The driver, Steven Jones, 30, is accused of causing an accident just south of milepost 234, near New River, when he began to turn around while on the interstate, DPS spokesman Bart Graves said.

After the collision, Jones proceeded to drive the wrong way down I-17, Graves said.

Maricopa County Sherriff’s Office troopers located Jones near Pioneer Road on southbound I-17, Graves said.

No injuries were reported. Jones was arrested on suspicion of aggravated DUI, Graves said.
