A man was struck by a bullet after it ricocheted off his dog during an open-air market at Turf Paradise on Friday, Phoenix police said.
Front Porch Pickins was holding its market when two dogs began fighting around 3 p.m., according to police and event organizers.
One of the dog owners shot the other animal, police said.
The bullet ricocheted and then struck the foot of the other dog’s owner, said police, who confirmed they were investigating the incident.
The man who was shot was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
The dog was also transported and is expected to recover.
“Front Porch Pickins takes safety and security of all spectators and participants extremely seriously and is fully cooperating with the Phoenix Police Department for their investigations,” said a statement issued by event representatives. “Our thoughts are with all of those impacted by today’s unfortunate events. All events scheduled for tomorrow will continue as scheduled.”
