The Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers have been heated rivals for years.

But that rivalry is headed to the postseason for the first time.

The NL West foes begin a best-of-5 series against each other Friday in LA. The winner of the series advances to the NLCS.

Arizona went 11-8 against the Dodgers this season and has won six straight against LA, giving Diamondbacks fans something to hold over their foes from the west.

Here are a few of the seminal moments in the last few years that have fed the Diamondbacks’ fiercest rivalry.

PREDICTIONS: Who’s going to win the Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers series?

“P” in pool

In 2013, the Dodgers clinched the NL West in Arizona … and players celebrated by jumping into the Chase Field pool.

That didn’t go over too well with the Diamondbacks organization or its fans.

Especially when a Dodgers player bragged about urinating in the pool.

“I could call it disrespectful and classless,” Diamondbacks President and CEO Derrick Hall said via email, “but they don’t have a beautiful pool at their old park and must have really wanted to see what one was like.”

Rocky relationship

Former azcentral sports’ columnist Paola Boivin detailed some of the history of the rivalry in 2016.

“Think back to Sept. 13, 2011, when Dodgers reliever Hong-Chih Kuo threw a pitch a little too tight for Gerardo Parra’s liking. Parra soon followed with a home run and stood a little while to admire it. This annoyed LA pitcher Clayton Kershaw, and he barked his disapproval from the rail of the dugout.

“The next night, Kershaw hit Parra on the elbow. He was ejected and more barking ensued.

“In May of 2012, Kershaw and Diamondbacks pitcher Ian Kennedy traded testy pitches that appeared to send messages.

“And then came the brawl of 2013, when the Dodgers’ Yasiel Puig was hit, then the Diamondbacks’ Miguel Montero, followed by Kennedy hitting, yup, (then Dodgers pitcher) Zack Greinke. Six ejections followed.”

Fans at Chase Field

Los Angeles has long had a big support base in the Valley and there have been a lot of Dodgers fans at Diamondbacks game over the years.

Archie Bradley voiced his concerns over the issue after his famous “This is our house” game earlier this season.

“This is our home field,” he said. “I was at the game when Devin Booker was talking about not letting Russell Westbrook get that triple double. It’s the same thing,” he said. “You look up, you see the blue in the stands and this is our house, man. I don’t care how many games back we are, I don’t care if we’re the worst team in baseball. I want to win at home and I want to see Diamondbacks fans in the stands. I don’t like seeing blue in the stands.”

Next chapter

The rivalry between the two teams could reach a new level as they begin their first playoff series against each other.

The winner of the NLDS will be one step closer to the World Series title that both teams covet.

The loser will have to wait at least another year.

It could be a very interesting series.
