The Diamondbacks’ roster continued to take shape on Tuesday with news that right-hander Tom Wilhelmsen and left-hander Jorge De La Rosa were added to the 25-man roster.
Both pitchers were in camp on minor-league deals and faced Tuesday deadlines to be told they’d made the team. If they weren’t added to the roster, both had the ability to opt out of their contracts and become free agents.
In other moves, the Diamondbacks placed outfielder Socrates Brito on the 60-day DL – a procedural move that opens a spot on the 40-man roster – and optioned infielder Ketel Marte to Triple-A Reno.

The club also re-signed outfielder Gregor Blanco to a minor-league deal one day after releasing him. Blanco had the same stipulation in his contract that allowed him to become a free agent, but the club managed to keep him in the organization.
Wilhelmsen’s addition to the bullpen comes as little surprise. The veteran, who has spent the bulk of his career with the Seattle Mariners, gave up just one run in 9 1/3 innings in spring training, walking five but allowing just three hits and striking out eight. He was also featuring a power fastball/breaking ball combination, with his velocity in the upper-90s.

De La Rosa was less certain to make the club. Though he had been exhibiting solid stuff, including a fastball up to 95 mph, he allowed five runs on 11 hits in eight innings, walking six and striking out five.
As it stands, the bullpen officially has five spots locked up, those belonging to Fernando Rodney, Randall Delgado, Archie Bradley, Wilhelmsen and De La Rosa.
Right-hander J.J. Hoover also has thrown well enough to seemingly have a job secured, tossing 8 2/3 scoreless innings with one walk and 11 strikeouts.

Also remaining in the picture are left-handers Andrew Chafin and T.J. McFarland and right-hander Silvino Bracho.
D-Backs claim Walker
The Diamondbacks also claimed first baseman/outfielder Christian Walker off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds and designated right-hander Evan Marshall for assignment.
Walker, who turned 26 on Tuesday, has just 27 at-bats at the big league level in his career. In parts of five minor league seasons, he’s hit .276/.342/.449, including hitting .264 with 18 homers last season in Triple-A Norfolk.
Marshall had a strong season in relief for the Diamondbacks in 2014 but his results have suffered the past two seasons. He gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings in six appearances in the Cactus League this spring.
