John McCain’s sports fandom was legend in Washington D.C. No team enjoyed more support from the late senator than the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks returned the favor Saturday, hanging a jersey with “McCain” and the No. 18 in the dugout. The team also held a memorial before the game featuring some of the senator’s celebrations caught on camera.

McCain died Saturday at his family’s home near Sedona after a 13-month battle with brain cancer. He was 81.

“John McCain has always been a member of the D-backs’ family and was one of this team’s biggest fans since day one,” Diamondbacks President and CEO Derrick Hall said in a team statement Friday night.
