A Daisy Mountain Fire Department captain was killed in a hunting accident in Colorado on Thursday, the department said Friday.

Capt. David “Wade” Barter was with the Fire Department for 17 years and held various positions such as a firefighter, paramedic, engineer and terrorist liaison officer.

Barter also was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, according to the Daisy Mountain Fire Department, which covers areas north of Phoenix along the Interstate 17 corridor.

Barter was a husband and father to five boys, the department said in a press release.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and comrade Captain Wade Barter, and we ask that you keep his family and all of us here at Daisy Mountain Fire & Medical in your thoughts and prayers,” the department said.

Details surrounding the accident were not immediately available.
