A woman and three children were injured in a serious three-vehicle collision on northbound Interstate 17 early Sunday afternoon that blocked several lanes near Camelback Road, officials said.

The collision occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. just south of Camelback Road, said Trooper Kameron Lee, a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Three children and a woman were transported to nearby hospital for unknown injuries, Lee said.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said the three right northbound lanes were blocked due to the crash. Officials did not have an estimated time for when lanes would reopen, but said it would occur shortly after fire personnel leave the area.

Freeway cameras capturing the scene showed at least two fire engines and two ambulances near the site where a car with significant front damage was up against the east wall.

Traffic appeared to be backed up behind the crash.

The cause of the collision was under investigation Sunday afternoon.

No other details were immediately available.
