A Glendale intersection is closed after a deadly five-vehicle crash early Sunday.

Glendale police said the crash happened at the intersection of 91st Avenue and Camelback Road at about 2:45 a.m.

A white pickup truck was heading west, toward the intersection, when it rear-ended a gray four-door sedan that was waiting to turn left. The sedan then hit a red SUV, officials said. The impact of the collision caused the truck to hit two more cars traveling west in the intersection.

The adult drivers of the truck and the sedan were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a police spokeswoman. Two of the SUV’s passengers were taken to a hospital. Officials did not know their condition as of Sunday morning.

Investigators were still working to determine whether speed or impairment played a role in the crash.

The 91st Avenue and Camelback intersection was expected to be closed until noon, police said.
