International bestselling author Clive Cussler will make a rare appearance and be the featured keynote speaker at the WriteNow! 2017 Conference at the Embassy Suites Phoenix/Scottsdale in Phoenix on Saturday, Aug. 12. This annual conference is put on by the Sisters in Crime Desert Sleuths Chapter.
The main topic for this year’s event is Writer Quest: Conquer the Publishing Jungle. Cussler will share his writing and publishing techniques, secrets and strategies.
“Not only will (Cussler) be speaking about the collaborative writing process with his own co-writer, Robin Burcell, he will be joined by (New York Times bestselling author) Lee (Goldberg),” Maegan Beaumont, president of the local chapter of Sisters in Crime, says. “In addition, (Burcell) will be conducting an interview with (Cussler), asking him all sorts of interesting questions.”
More things to do
Cussler had his first book published in 1973 after serving in the military during the Korean War and then working as a copywriter and later creative director for two leading ad agencies. He has been called the Grand Master of Adventure for his numerous book series. His thriller novels have reached the New York Times bestseller list more than 20 times.
Cussler splits his time between living in Colorado and Arizona.
For those interested in finding out how to establish their own personal brand, Dana Kaye, publicist, social media pro and brand manager, will be on-site. Literary agent Jill Marr from Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency will be taking pitches, and development manager Holly Lorincz will provide editing sessions.
Friday evening’s reception will be held at Changing Hands Bookstore in Phoenix. The reception will also be a 30-year celebration for the Sisters in Crime organization. All of Saturday’s guest speakers are expected to attend.
“That we’ve been around for 30 years says we’re doing our job. We’re making a difference in the lives and careers of our members. And don’t let the name fool you – we have almost as many misters as we do sisters,” Beaumont says.
Lunch and snacks are included. There will be the opportunity to purchase the speakers’ books and have them signed, and a silent auction will be held along with a free drawing for a loaded Kindle.
“Attendees will walk away with an experience of a lifetime,” Beaumont says. “To be able to spend time with such a talented group of writers in such an intimate setting and listen to their thoughts on how their creative process works is something not many mystery lovers can say they’ve experienced.”
