Glendale police arrested a man suspected of stabbing and killing a man who had been his co-worker, authorities announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Police apprehended 59-year-old Charles James Lopez at a motel near the crime scene. He is being charged with second-degree murder, according to Glendale police.
On Friday around 3 p.m., Glendale police officers responded to a call regarding a man being stabbed at 60th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. The victim was 58-year-old Glendale resident Benny Ortega, who was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after, police said.
Police located Lopez at a motel on 59th and Glendale avenues, a little over a mile from the intersection where the stabbing took place. Other evidence of the crime was found upon Lopez’s arrest, according to police.
