Note: Brophy Prep has won 40 state championships and not lost a state meet since 1987. Coach Pat O’Neill has left after 12 seasons leading the program to get back into the Mesa Unified School District. Chaparral is moving up and could give the Broncos a challenge. Chaparral won the past two D-II state titles and is led by reigning azcentral sports Male Swimmer of the Year Matthew LeBlanc. “This is the season we can really prove a lot but overall I’m worried about what we are doing in each meet well and where we can improve,” Chaparral coach Richie Krzyzanowski said. “Each meet is something that I just want to get better at something we didn’t do a good job the prior week. That can be on turns, underwater, the small things that are definitely going to be the difference come the state meet.”
