The Cardinals lost one backup outside linebacker on Tuesday but moved quickly to acquire his replacement.

Alex Okafor, drafted by the Cardinals in the fourth round in 2013, agreed to terms with the Saints. A few hours later, the Cardinals reached contract terms with Jarvis Jones, the Steelers’ first-round pick in 2013.

Financial terms of the deals were not announced.

The Cardinals wanted Okafor back, but it’s likely he was looking for a starting job. In Arizona, he would have continued playing behind Markus Golden and Chandler Jones.

Instead, Jarvis Jones will be one of the Cardinals’ backups in 2017.

NFL MOCK DRAFT: Latest picks for Cardinals

Jones, who visited the Cardinals on Monday, never developed into the pass rusher the Steelers hoped. In 50 games, including 35 starts, Jones had six sacks.

Okafor’s best season came in 2014 when he had eight sacks. He had just two the following season, however, and drew the ire of Cardinals coaches and management when he suffered a toe injury during the bye week in the playoffs.

Circumstances surrounding the injury were mysterious, and Okafor missed the playoffs.

Okafor returned last season as a backup and finished with 3.5 sacks.
