LAKE HAVASU CITY — Authorities in northwestern Arizona say a California man is dead after a possible drowning on Lake Havasu.

Mohave County Sheriff’s officials say 54-year-old Gregory James White of Arcadia was declared dead Thursday evening after he jumped into the water from his boat without a life jacket.

They say White was with his girlfriend and another female friend when they decided to stop and turn off the boat and go for a swim.

The women returned to the boat safely, but authorities say the wind kicked up and distanced White from the boat as he struggled to stay afloat.

The women got White back on the boat and started CPR before guiding the boat to the nearby shoreline.

Authorities say White has a history of medical issues. Autopsy results are pending.
