Former Gilbert Perry quarterback Brock Purdy, who has shined during his two seasons with the Iowa State Cyclones, could end up being the next Arizona high school product to go in the first round of the NFL draft.

As a sophomore last season, Purdy threw for 3,982 yards, completing 65.7% of his throws. He had 27 touchdowns passes and nine passes intercepted.

He is projected to be a first-round draft pick in the 2021 NFL draft in several early projections.

Were Purdy to go in the first round, he’d become the 23rd former Arizona high school football player to be picked in that round.

Former Phoenix North Canyon standout Austin Jackson became the 22nd when the Miami Dolphins took him with the No. 18 selection in the 2020 NFL draft.

Purdy isn’t the only former Arizona high school football player to be projected to go in the first round next year.

Former Chandler High standout Hamilcar Rashed Jr., a defensive lineman at Oregon State, also shows up in a recent first-round mock draft for 2021.

Check out what 2021 NFL mock drafts are saying about the Arizona high school products:

Brock Purdy

Fox Sports: Brock Purdy will land with Las Vegas Raiders at No. 7

Jason McIntyre writes: “If the Raiders are this bad it means two things: Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota are definitely not the answer for Jon Gruden. Maybe something crazy happens in 2021 free agency and Dak Prescott hits the market, but in the absence of chaos, Gruden will be targeting a QB. In four games against ranked teams last year, Purdy threw 8 TDs and had just one interceptions. But the Cyclones went just 1-3 in those games.”

Pro Football Network: Brock Purdy will be picked by the Indianapolis Colts at No. 19

Neal Driscoll writes: “Phil Rivers will be one and done in Indianapolis and I am not putting much stock in 2020 4th round pick Jacob Eason. Enter Brock Purdy as the Colts new franchise quarterback.”

247 Sports: Brock Purdy gets selected by New Orleans Saints at No. 31

Joal Ryan writes: “Yes, the Saints just spent $50 million locking in Drew Brees for another two years, but the team may want a little (a lot?) of insurance heading into the contract’s final year (when, oh, by the way, Brees’ll be 42). Iowa State record-setter Brock Purdy is an accurate passer with dual-threat capability.”

Tankathon.com projects Purdy to go to the Carolina Panthers at No. 36, while DraftSite.com has him getting drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 48.

Draft Wire has the England Patriots taking Purdy at No. 57.

Hamilcar Rashed, Jr.

Fansided: Hamilcar Rashed goes to the Minnesota Vikings at No. 18

Sayre Bedinger writes: “Hamilcar Rashed might not be the most well-known 2019 All-American in the country, but he’s certainly one of the best pass rushers. The 2019 All-American racked up 62 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, and 14 sacks last season for the Oregon State Beavers, and he has some serious juice coming off the edge. Entering his third year as a starter, Rashed has a chance to now establish himself as a first-round talent. The Minnesota Vikings have taken on a lot of change on the defensive side of the ball, and they could be in the market for a rusher opposite Danielle Hunter in the 2021 NFL Draft. If Rashed can continue to build on what he put together in 2019, he is definitely going to be in that conversation.”

DraftSite.com has Rashed landing with the Cleveland Browns at No. 78 and Tankathon.com has him going to the Tennessee Titans at No. 84.

Other Arizona high school products in 2021 NFL draft?

Former Tucson Sabino standout Matt Bushman, a tight end at BYU, and Chase Lucas, a safety at Arizona State who went to Chandler, are a couple of other Arizona high school products who show up in some recent NFL mock drafts.

Pro Football Network has Bushman going to the Dallas Cowboys at No. 59 in a mock draft, while DraftSite.com has him being selected by the Raiders at No. 76.

DraftSite.com has Lucas landing with the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 156.

Several other former Arizona high school products are bound to start showing up in NFL draft projections for the 2021 NFL draft in the days, weeks and months ahead.
