History was made Thursday night.
Right-handed pitcher Brad Ziegler, re-acquired by the Diamondbacks before the trade deadline, became the first Arizona reliever to use the team’s bullpen cart when he made his appearance in the seventh inning against the Giants.
Ziegler has been dealing with some back problems this season, so perhaps a leisurely drive to the mound is perfect for the side-armed veteran. He promptly allowed a run to score on a sacrifice fly, but then he closed the inning with a strikeout.
It didn’t go well after that.

He finished his night allowing four earned runs on three hits and a walk in one inning pitched … so perhaps he could use the exercise next time.
By the time the eighth inning was over, a two-run deficit ballooned to an 8-1 Giants lead. Blame it on the cart.
