ST. LOUIS — Ryan O’Reilly scored his second goal of the game at 10:38 of the third period to give the St. Louis Blues the game-winner in a 4-2 Game 4 win against the Boston Bruins that ties the Stanley Cup Final at two wins apiece.

The best-of-seven series returns to Boston for Game 5 on Thursday night, with the Bruins still holding the home-ice advantage.

Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara was struck in the face by Brayden Schenn’s shot early in the second period and didn’t play again, although he did sit on the bench in the third period. When Schenn fired, the puck struck Chara’s stick and rode up to his face.

When Chara rose to his skates, there was a blood stain on the ice.

Schenn eventually sealed the win with an empty-net goal.

Blues goalie Jordan Binnington is now 13-2 this season in games after a loss.

The Bruins tied the game 2-2 on a short-handed goal by Brandon Carlo at 14:19 of the second period.

Shortly before then, the Blues had put considerable pressure on the Bruins with a relentless forecheck. Fans cheer enthusiastically every time the Blues threw a bodycheck — and they threw many. But they were unable to extend their lead.

The Blues had claimed a 2-1 lead at 15:30 of the first period when Vladimir Tarasenko fired a rebound past Rask after he had stopped Alex Pietrangelo’s shot.

Boston’s Charlie Coyle had tied the game 1-1 when he scored on a rebound after a shot by Chara.

The Blues came out strong at the start of the game, scoring 43 seconds in on a wrap-around goal by O’Reilly.

After being penalized 17 times in the first three games, the Blues largely stayed out of the penalty box in Game 4 and killed off both of Boston’s power play opportunities.
