The ASU football program is making some big strides on the recruiting trail.

It shows in the latest national recruiting rankings.

After landing a commitment from four-star cornerback Isaiah Johnson out of St. Bernard in Playa Del Ray, California on Monday, the Sun Devils have seen their ranking for the 2021 recruiting class rise nationally.

ASU went up 12 spots in Rivals’ 2021 team rankings after Johnson’s commitment. Herm Edwards’ team is now No. 21 in the nation, according to that site, with several schools not far ahead of them.

247 Sports also elevated ASU after Johnson’s commitment.

It has the Sun Devils up nine spots to No. 24 nationally.

Before ASU got a commitment from Johnson, SB Nation’s Cam Mellor raved about the team’s progress on the recruiting trail.

He wrote: “This is the biggest story on the recruiting trail as the Sun Devils now have 18 commitments for this class and have surpassed four other teams in the rankings in doing so. They have secured the services of 10 different pledges since our last check-in, as 10 recruits have committed in the past eight days … Head coach Herm Edwards’ tear has pushed his team into fourth place here and is a real threat to crack into the top three before everything is said and done. The Sun Devils now have commitments from players hailing from 11 different states as he’s showing he has more than what it takes to be a major college football coach, leaving no doubt that ASU is in the right direction.”
