They trailed by two runs or more in the first inning of all three weekend games but recovered for 7-6 (walk off), 9-4 and 8-5 victories. C Zach Cerbo had five hits vs. Long Beach State, raising his average to .474 in only 19 at-bats. 1B Lyle Lin is at .375 with 13 RBIs. ASU also opened Pac-12 last season against Oregon State, getting swept in Corvallis. Ten of 11 Pac-12 teams have winning records, the exception being UCLA (6-9).

Oregon State: The Beavers (14-1) climbed two spots to No. 2 in the USA TODAY coaches poll behind Louisville after a four-game home sweep over Ball State. They have won nine straight with their only loss to Ohio State on Feb. 24. Oregon State, which played its first eight games in Surprise, has yet to face a ranked opponent. SS Nick Madrigal is hitting .411 with three home runs and 11 RBIs. 3B Michael Gretier follows at .381. Four players have double-digit RBIs. Expected starting pitchers are Bryce Fehmel (2-1, 2.37 ERA), Luke Heimlich (3-0, 0.31) and Sam Tweedt (3-0, 2.14). Coach Pat Casey is in his 23rd season.
