Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the beating and stabbing death of a 50-year-old woman at a motel in Mesa.

Allan Fredrick Lindstrom, 51, was arrested Tuesday evening on suspicion of second-degree murder in the Oct. 2 slaying of Sharon Vaulding.

The arrest followed a determination from the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office that Vaulding had been stabbed and beaten. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Police said Lindstrom called 911 on Oct. 2 from the Colonade Motel, 5440 E. Mesa Drive, and said he found Vaulding not breathing. She was already dead by the time officers arrived at the scene.

Mesa police detectives linked physical and DNA evidence to Lindstrom, leading to his arrest, according to a police statement.
