Up next: Texas Rangers

Rangers update: The Rangers are coming off an unexpected sweep of the defending World Series champion Houston Astros, whom they beat handily on Friday and Saturday before taking a one-run win on Sunday. It was the Rangers’ first sweep since mid-June and just their third of the season. It has not been a strong year for the Rangers, who, despite the sweep, remain 22 games out of first place. They’ve already begun selling off assets, shipping RHP Jesse Chavez and LHP Cole Hamels to the Chicago Cubs in separate trades. They sell off more parts in the coming days, including relievers RHP Keone Kela and LHP Jake Diekman. The Rangers’ offense hasn’t been bad, ranking seventh in the American League with 4.6 runs per game. Their pitching staff, however, has struggled. It ranks third from the bottom in the AL with a 4.87 ERA. The rotation has been especially troublesome; their starters have a 5.29 ERA, the second-worst mark in the league.
