Diamondbacks center fielder A.J. Pollock left his rehab game with Triple-A Reno with right quad tightness on Monday and is considered day-to-day.

Pollock, who strained his right groin last month, was playing in just the second game of his rehab assignment and was on track to return soon, perhaps as early as this weekend when the Diamondbacks return home from Denver.

It’s unclear how severe this injury is and how far it might push back his return.

Pollock went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk in his first rehab game for Reno on Saturday.

On the bright side, the Diamondbacks have not missed a beat since Pollock hurt his groin running to first base on a routine single against the Pirates on May 14. From May 15 through Sunday, the Diamondbacks are 23-8, the best record in the majors.

Tuesday’s game

Diamondbacks at Rockies

When: 5:40 p.m.

Where: Coors Field, Denver.

Pitchers: Diamondbacks RHP Zack Greinke (8-3, 3.00) vs. Rockies RHP German Marquez (5-3, 4.19).

TV/Radio: FSAZ/KTAR-AM (620), KHOV-FM (105.1).

Greinke gave up five runs – all of them unearned – in 5 2/3 innings against the Tigers on June 13 in the first game of the Diamondbacks’ current road trip. Greinke was hurt by an error by SS Chris Owings and a misplayed fly ball by RF David Peralta. … Greinke has been equally effective against lefties (.224 average, .646 OPS) as righties (.220, .648) this season. … He has faced the Rockies twice this season, giving up five earned runs in 13 innings. … Marquez has been a fairly reliable arm for the Rockies this season, though he has not pitched deep into games consistently. He has worked six innings in only four of his six starts. … He faced the Diamondbacks in consecutive starts on April 30 and May 5, throwing well the first time (six scoreless innings) but was hit hard (five runs in six innings) the next time.

Rockies update: The Rockies are enjoying the same sort of surprising dominance as the Diamondbacks, but despite the narrative of them being a monster offensive team, it’s actually their pitching that’s been the most impressive. They do lead the league in runs scored, but much of that can likely be attributed to playing at Coors Field. Their pitching, meanwhile, ranks third in ERA, which is highly impressive given their run-scoring atmosphere at home. Rookie LHP Kyle Freeland has been their best starter; he has a 3.42 ERA in 81 2/3 innings. Six of the seven pitchers to have started games for the Rockies have ERAs at or below 4.38. The Rockies bullpen has also been very good, with closer RHP Greg Holland converting 24 of 25 save chances and LHP Jake McGee (2.15 ERA) and RHP Adam Ottavino (2.84 ERA) also posting good results. Only a few Rockies hitters are having particularly notable years offensively. CF Charlie Blackmon is hitting .328 with 15 home runs and an impressive 54 RBIs out of the leadoff spot; 3B Nolan Arenado is hitting .299 with 15 homers; and 1B Mark Reynolds is hitting .302/.384/.550 with a team-leading 17 homers.
