Arizona Coyotes points leader Conor Garland will not play Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche and is day to day with a lower body injury, the team announced prior to the start of the game.

Garland, whose 19 points lead the team, had not missed a game this season. But he’s been hit during play and after whistles quite a bit this season as opposing players seek to limit his effectiveness.

Garland has 12 assists, one which came late Friday night in the Coyotes’ 3-2 loss to the Avalanche. At one point in the game, he was flung to the ice by Colorado’s Gabriel Landeskog after some physical play near the net.

The Coyotes were also without forward John Hayden, who appeared on the NHL’s COVID protocols-related absence list Saturday.
