Cardinals make roster moves

The Cardinals on Saturday announced they have signed linebackers Josh Bynes and Terence Waugh, waived wide receiver Larry Clark, and waived and reached an injury settlement with linebacker Gabe Martin, who recently suffered an Achilles injury.

Bynes (6-1, 235) played the past three seasons with the Lions after playing his first three NFL seasons with the Ravens. He was an undrafted rookie free agent out of Auburn in 2011.

In his career, Bynes, 27, has totaled 209 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, a half sack, one interception, 14 passes defenses, one forced fumble, one  fumble recovery and 12 special teams tackles in 64 games (28 starts).

He’s appeared in six postseason games, including Super Bowl XLVII with Baltimore.

Waugh (6-1, 254) is an undrafted rookie free agent from Kent State who was named to the All-MAC first team last year after leading the team with eight sacks and 15 tackles for loss. As a junior in 2015, he also led the team in sacks with nine. In 40 games at Kent State, Waugh finished with 175 tackles (91 solo), 20 sacks and two forced fumbles.

Fitzgerald in Canton

I’m told veteran receiver Larry Fitzgerald won’t be at practice Saturday as he is expected to stay behind in Canton and attend former quarterback Kurt Warner’s induction in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday night.

Weekend practices closed

The Cardinals will practice on Saturday and Sunday but both are closed to the public.

The Cardinals are scheduled to be off Monday before opening practice to the public again Tuesday.

Final thoughts on Thursday night:

– Rookie running back T.J. Logan, he of the elusive 4.2-something speed, returned two kickoffs for 71 yards and ran four times for a team-leading 24 yards. As I’ve mentioned earlier, I see Logan easily cracking the active roster with Andre Ellington and Kerwynn Williams having to sweat it out. Logan left the field with an apparent wrist injury late in the game, which could be a problem moving forward.

– Tight end Ifeanyi Momah had his moments, too, catching three passes for 48 yards. Momah, though, needs to become a much better blocker in the run game to guarantee himself a roster spot on the final 53. Can he do it? Possibly. It won’t surprise me, though, if the Cardinals look outside for a veteran tight end who can be a valuable two-way player as both a pass catcher and blocker.

– Rookie defensive back Rudy Ford, meanwhile, collected his fair share of tackles (10) playing primarily at cornerback after spending most of camp as a safety. I’m wondering if this game could make coach Arians and others on the staff consider him as a backup at the No.2 right cornerback slot. We will know soon enough in the coming days.
