The Arizona Cardinals’ uniforms and whether or not they need an upgrade, has been the talk of many of the team’s fans over the past couple of weeks.

The talk intensified earlier this week when one NFL writer ranked the team’s look last in the NFL.

USA TODAY Sports’ Nate Davis wrote of Arizona’s look, which he ranked No. 32 among the NFL’s 32 teams: “QB Kyler Murray and, apparently, an overwhelming faction of the fan base want an overhaul. They’re right, it’s long overdue. Piping + panels = putrid. What was wrong with the Pat Tillman era, featuring Arizona’s state flag on simpler white jerseys anyway?”

Davis isn’t alone among writers in his disdain for the Cardinals’ uniforms.

Uni Watch’s Paul Lukas also ranked the Cardinals’ uniforms last in the NFL last season.

He wrote: “What a disaster. The Cardinals start with a very old-school helmet look — plain white shell, basic logo, gray facemask — and pair it with newfangled elements like those clownish jersey sleeves and the league’s worst pants striping. It’s a painfully bad clash of old-school and new-school, and it all looks even worse when they break out the black alternates. Blow it up and start over.”

Do the Cardinals really have the worst uniforms in the NFL? Are they really that bad?

Not everyone seems to think so.

Touchdown Wire’s Mark Lane recently ranked the Cardinals’ uniforms No. 17 in the league, very different from No. 32.

He wrote: “The Cardinals had bland red and white jerseys with an annoyed cardinal on a white helmet. If an empty billboard were a team, it would be the Cardinals until 2005 when they introduced their modern uniforms. Arizona can go full one color with them, or provide different uniform schemes. Many teams dabble with black jerseys as a variant, but the Cardinals are the only team that appears to pull it off right.”

NBC Sports has the Cardinals’ look at No. 25, still much better than last in the NFL.

Ethan Cadeaux wrote: “The all-red Cardinals uniforms look fresh, but the team should seriously ditch the white helmets. These have potential but just are quite not there yet.”

Touchdown Wire’s Barry Werner had the Cardinals’ uniforms ranked No. 23 in the league last year.

He wrote: “The Cardinals keep it simple and don’t have much fanfare when it comes to their uniforms.”

Cards Wire’s Jess Root thought the last ranking for the Cardinals’ uniforms was “a bit harsh.”

He wrote: “The Cardinals released their Color Rush jerseys a few years ago with a good response. However, they only wear those uniforms once a year. It isn’t certain why the team seems to simply be ignoring the uniforms. The Cardinals do have fairly plain uniforms, but the worst in the league? That might be a bit harsh.”
