The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced the winning messages from its Safety Message Contest that will display on overhead freeway signs.
After 5,000 votes were tallied for the final 15 safety messages, the two winning phrases were announced on Friday and appeared on signs over the weekend, according to an ADOT news release.
The winning phrases are:
- “Drive like the person your dog thinks you are” by Mitzie Warner of Chandler
- “Drink & drive? Meet police and see new bars” by David Posey of San Tan Valley
The creators of the winning safety messages were invited to ADOT’s Traffic Operations Center where they typed their messages into the system, and were able to see them display on the overhead message board, according to the press release.
“These messages are wonderful and because the public invested their time into voting for their favorites, hopefully they carry a little more meaning and drivers will take the messages to heart when they see them this weekend over Arizona’s highways,” ADOT Director John Halikowski said in the news release.
