A 21st-century oopsie-daisy may have confirmed what many in the Phoenix political scene have guessed: Moses Sanchez — a Phoenix political outsider — is running for mayor.
MosesSanchez.com displays a spiffy logo that reads “Moses Sanchez, committed to service,” followed by an all-caps, “MAYOR.”
Further down, the website’s homepage says, “Coming soon.”
Sanchez would be the first Republican to join the mayoral race. City elections officially are nonpartisan, but party politics often come into play.
Sanchez, a Navy veteran and former Tempe Union High School District Governing Board member, declined to comment about the website. But in November, he confirmed to The Arizona Republic he was considering a run.
“I have received a lot of encouragement and serious support to run. I’m talking it over with my family and expect to make a decision in the next couple of weeks,” Sanchez said in the November statement.
If Sanchez gets in the race, he will join current council members Daniel Valenzuela and Kate Gallego in the battle to replace Mayor Greg Stanton, who will resign next year to run for Congress. Both council members are Democrats.
