Peoria police arrested a man on suspicion of a domestic-violence shooting that occurred earlier in the week, officials said.
Adam Vandever, 31, was arrested Thursday morning after being released from the hospital.
He was booked into the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail for investigation of attempted first- and second-degree murder, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct with a firearm, Peoria police said in a media release.
Vandever was in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound prior to his arrest, police said.
On Aug. 7, about 6 p.m., police received several reports of a possible shooting near 103rd Avenue and Ironwood Drive in Peoria.
When officers arrived, witnesses reported two people shooting and said that several people had also been shot.
Officers found a man and a teenage girl with gunshot wounds, according to the release from police. Both were taken to hospitals or trauma centers.
Earlier investigation showed that Vandever had arrived at a complex where his estranged wife was staying with family, police said.
The wife, 30, left with three children as Vandever pulled up to the complex. Vandever got out of his vehicle and began shooting at his wife’s vehicle, police said.
As his wife drove away, Vandever got back inside his vehicle, followed her and crashed into her vehicle, officials said. He then got out again and began to physically assault her, officials said.
According to the media release, a relative of the wife realized what was happening and grabbed his weapon.
Officials said Vandever and the family member exchanged gunfire. Vandever was shot in the leg. Police found Vandever at the scene.
During the shots fired between the family member and Vandever, a 14-year-old girl was shot in the chest, according to the media release.
Both she and Vandever were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The girl is in stable condition, police said.
Vandever was treated and released from the hospital, after which he was arrested, police said.
