This was a record-breaking year for the Arizona State Fair.
The 2021 fair, which returned to Phoenix Oct. 1-30 after a two-year absence due to the coronavirus pandemic, welcomed 1,589,951 visitors over the course of 22 days (the grounds were closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). This set a new record for the event, whose previous attendance record was nearly 1.3 million guests in 2019.
According to the Arizona State Fair, that number was surpassed on the 17th day of the 2021 event.
The record-high attendance was not only noteworthy in Arizona history but also earned national recognition.
According to CarnivalWarehouse.com’s top 50 fairs of 2021, the Arizona State Fair was the No. 2 most-attended fair in the country — the highest it’s ever been on the annual list. Only the Texas State Fair in Dallas had more visitors — 2,202,689 million.
The website “publishes the industry’s official top 50 fair and carnival ranking.”
In 2019, the Arizona State Fair was ranked No. 11, with 1,262,868 visitors. The Texas State Fair led the list that year as well, with 2,514,637 million attendees.
