A 4-year-old boy was unresponsive as he was pulled out of a swimming pool at a Phoenix motel near North 52nd Avenue and McDowell Road Saturday evening, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
Crews were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. to the scene. According to the department, the boy had been underwater for about 30 seconds when the motel emergency system activated and the child was quickly removed from the pool.
When fire personnel arrived, the boy was not breathing and family members were performing CPR on the child.
The boy had a distended abdomen, the department said. He began spewing out water with assistance from the fire crews.
The child started breathing on his own and was taken to a local pediatric hospital in stable condition.
