No. 4 Nebraska volleyball swept Arizona State 3-0 on Saturday.
The Cornhuskers hit .350 in the 25-20, 25-12, 25-22 win, improving to 5-0 before 8,253 at Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.
ASU hit .127, dropping to 3-3 overall over 1-2 for the weekend at the Ameritas Players Challenge.
Iman Isanovic had 14 kills for ASU but no one else more than four. She was named to the all-tournament team.
Lexi Sun led Nebraska with 14 kills/.364 hitting and Whitney Lauenstein hit .529 with 11 kills.
ASU next is in Flagstaff for matches against Utah Valley and Northern Arizona on Friday and UC Davis on Sept. 11.
ASU volleyball splits five-set matches with Georgia, Nebraska Omaha
Arizona State volleyball split a pair of five-set matches Friday, winning 3-2 over Nebraska Omaha after losing 3-2 to Georgia.
ASU (3-2) overcame 5-1 and 7-4 deficits in the deciding set against Omaha to win at the Ameritas Players Challenge in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Iman Isanovic had a huge match with 27 kills and four total blocks for 30.5 points.
The Sun Devils won 25-21, 23-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-13 over Omaha (1-3), which lost 3-2 earlier Friday to No. 4 Nebraska.
Georgia (3-1) defeated ASU, 25-22, 18-25, 25-16, 20-25, 15-7 Friday morning, scoring six of the final seven points in the fifth set. Isanovic had 23 kills on .314 hitting.
The Bulldogs faced Nebraska (3-0) on Friday night, and ASU gets its shot at Nebraska on Saturday.
No. 13 Louisville volleyball downs ASU in five sets
No. 13 Louisville volleyball built an 8-2 lead in the fifth set Saturday and won 15-11 for a 3-2 match victory over Arizona State.
ASU closed the fourth set on a 4-0 run, holding off two match points, to force a fifth set at Desert Financial Arena.
Outside hitter Anna DeBeer led Louisville (3-0) with 18 kills on .389 hitting. Her kill ended the match after ASU held off three match points.
The Cardinals outhit ASU .295 to .171 and had a 16-8 edge in total blocks. Louisville’s Aiko Jones had 11 kills, 10 blocks and a team high 20.5 points.
For ASU (2-1), Iman Isanovic had 13 kills on her 22nd birthday, Marta Leviska 12 and Claire Jeter eight with four total blocks.
Louisville won 25-15, 24-26, 25-17, 24-26, 15-11.
“Tough one tonight, but good one for us,” ASU coach Sanja Tomasevic said. “Louisville is an excellent team. They’ve been elite the last two years and they have a few super seniors. They have a lot of experience there. I thought something that continued from spring is that this team doesn’t give up. There’s grit, there’s fight always there and there’s talent so we’ll continue building.
“I don’t think it would have been surprising if we beat Louisville. I don’t think it would be a shock, not for me, because I think we have talent, and we have personnel to do that. We just don’t have experience we need to get at this level and we’re doing that right now, that’s why we scheduled the way we did the preseason.”
The Sun Devils next are at Lincoln, Nebraska, for matches against Georgia and Nebraska Omaha on Friday and the host Cornhuskers on Sept. 4.
ASU volleyball sweeps two season-opening opponents
Arizona State volleyball two season-opening matches Friday.
After a 3-0 win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi, ASU won 25-22, 25-19, 25-22 over Cal Poly at Desert Financial Arena.
ASU hit .307 in the nightcap to .231 for Cal Poly (0-2).
Hitters Marta Levinska and Iman Isanovic and middle blocker Claire Jeter, a transfer from Texas A&M, each had 11 kills against the Mustangs. Jeter hit .556, committing just one error, and had four total blocks. Isanovic added 11 digs for a double-double.
Against Texas A&M CC, ASU hit .476.
Levinska, Isanovic and Jeter also combined for 33 kills in the opener with just one error on 62 attempts, 13 total blocks and 42.5 points.
ASU won 25-17, 25-13, 25-11 at Desert Financial Arena.
Freshman OH/MB Andi Kreiling started in her first two college matches, hitting .333 with five kills in the first match. and eight kills against Cal Poly.
Beatrice Badini, a middle from Italy, had three kills and four total blocks in the opener and five kills/.714 in the nightcap.
ASU plays No. 13 Louisville (2-0) at 4 p.m. Saturday.
