Mesa police arrested a Skyline High School employee accused of having multiple sexual encounters with a student in 2012.
The suspect, 39-year-old Jacob Zamora, was working as an auditorium manager at the school when he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old student at the time, from summer 2012 to October 2012, police said.
The student, now 24, came forward and said he was turning 16 years old and entering 10th grade when he entered the relationship with Zamora. Many of the sexual encounters took place in the victim’s home, police said.
Police launched an investigation on May 10 after the student came forward. Investigators met with Zamora on Sept. 2 when they said he admitted to performing the acts.
Zamora was arrested and booked on suspicion of three counts of sexual conduct with a minor, a class 6 felony.
According to Heidi Hunt, spokesperson for Mesa Public Schools, Zamora is the auditorium manager at Skyline High School and has been employed since October 2001. Hunt said that the district had no prior knowledge of the allegations, but placed Zamora on administrative leave following the allegations.
“The district will follow its employee discipline due process, which can lead to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal,” Hunt said in an email to The Arizona Republic and encouraged anyone with information to contact Mesa police.
Investigators believe there may be more possible victims. Police ask anyone with information or who has had a similar experience to call Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211.
